CinémaPerformance

The grand master of “real cinema” through two of his most significant silent films, "Images of Ostend" (1929) and "Misery in the Borinage" (1933), set to music by Stéphane Orlando .

Henri Storck is part of this generation of young filmmakers who experienced the painful transition from silent to talking. Images d'Ostende, shot during the winter of 1929-1930, is a purely visual work, “close to music”. Misère au Borinage, made with Joris Ivens in 1933, was originally a silent film punctuated by intertitles giving meaning to the images.

Henri Storck also speaks of "visual poetry" to qualify his first works like Images d'Ostende  or Misère au Borinage, the founding militant film of Belgian cinema, which will cause a real shock wave at the time and resonate curiously in our troubled times : in 1932, a big strike had paralyzed the coal mines of Wallonia and the employers' and police's response had been merciless, all in the under-information and general indifference.

We invite you to discover these two masterpieces with us on Sunday 10 April, at 7pm. Drink at 6.30pm.
