Europalia Trains & Tracks

Did you know that in 1830, Henri De Gorge, founder of le Grand-Hornu, inaugurated the first horse-drawn railway in Belgium and one of the first in Europe?  The railway was almost two kilometres long and linked the coal pits to the banks of the Mons-Condé canal.

The Grand-Hornu, a jewel of Wallonia's industrial heritage, is offering you a 5 km family walk in the wake of the old railway on Saturday 23 April at 2pm.

For train enthusiasts, the tour includes a visit to the Rétrotrain Museum located in the former carriage workshop in Saint-Ghislain.

Price: 5 € for adults and free for children under 12.
