From Belgium with light

Belgians [almost] invented light
19.11.17 to 25.02.18

Description

Is it because there is sometimes a lack of light in our skies?

Artificial lighting is a field in which both Belgian industry and designers excel. Starting in the early 1980s, the expansion of companies like Schréder and the creation of brands such as Light, Modular, Kreon, Wever&Ducré, Delta Light, and Dark opened up new opportunities for industrial designers and showcased our country’s expertise. In just a few decades, “made in Belgium” lighting design became an international benchmark—a status it still holds today.

Thus, drawing on their technical expertise in lighting, designers such as Nathalie Dewez, Jos Devriendt, Alain Berteau, Sylvain Willenz, and Frederik Delbart turned toward a more intimate and personal conception of light, without succumbing to the temptation of ornamentation.

Belgian lighting design is characterized by technical and high-performance lighting, but also by cutting-edge expertise that takes on an emotional dimension when certain designers tackle the subject.
