It is impossible to separate life from work in the daily lives of the creative duo Sofie Lachaert and Luc d’Hanis (Slld).
For over 20 years, they have been collaborating on furniture, objects and site-specific installations. Their intriguing work constantly challenges and pushes the boundaries between applied arts, craftsmanship and design.
Each project is a shared adventure, each work the result of a symbiosis between a jewellery designer and a visual artist. Subtle interventions enrich everyday objects, layering them with different meanings.
We then perceive them in a new light, sometimes conceptually, often with reference to the visual arts. Each piece can be interpreted and viewed in various ways. The object’s meaning and function are shifted, the senses stimulated, revealing an unsuspected beauty.
For their exhibition, Slld have recreated a street from the Grand-Hornu mining district.
Doors and windows open onto scenes of daily life, moments of reflection, silence, questioning… a poetic experience.
